Flannel Friday: Ice Cream Colors

Here is one of my favorite rhyming flannel boards to use in storytime.  It’s great for all kinds of themes too!  Food, desserts, summertime etc.  All the kids get a kick out of this one because they love to watch all the ice cream keep piling up higher and higher.  We say all the colors together, then at the end, we count how many scoops we have.  They try to guess the flavors too!  Then, I always ask them if they think they could eat that much ice cream.  The answer is usually yes!

We have ice cream, the best in town, let us begin with chocolate-brown.

Now let us scoop up some bubblegum pink, it’s sweet and yummy, the best some think!

Here is ice cream minty and green, it’s the creamiest I’ve ever seen!

Yellow ice cream is lemony and tart, we like its taste from the very start.

Scoops of blueberry would make my day, look at all this ice cream, hip hip hooray!

Red ice cream is a strawberry delight, all these scoops are a heavenly sight.

Vanilla white is a popular flavor, it tastes very good to an ice cream craver.

Purple ice cream really gives me a kick, good and yummy till the very last lick.

Ice cream, ice cream, what a cool sensation, we love ice cream in any combination!

Flannel Friday: I Had a Cat

I’ve missed out on Flannel Friday the past 2 weeks due to good ol’ Summer Reading, but I am back this week!  I missed you all!  This week my Flannel Friday is for the song, I Had a Cat.  This is one of the first flannels I made when I began working in the children’s department over 5 years ago. 

I Had a Cat

I had a cat, my cat pleased me, I fed my cat under the old oak tree.  Cat goes fiddle-i-fee.

I had a pig, my pig pleased me, I fed my pig under the old oak tree.  Pig goes oink-oink, cat goes fiddle-i-fee.

I had a turkey, my turkey pleased me, I fed my turkey under the old oak tree.  Turkey goes gobble-gobble, pig goes oink-oink, cat goes fiddle-i-fee.

I had a rooster, my rooster pleased me, I fed my rooster under the old oak tree.  Rooster goes cock-a-doodle-doo, turkey goes gobble-gobble, pig goes oink-oink, cat goes fiddle-i-fee.

I had a donkey, my donkey pleased me, I fed my donkey under the old oak tree.  Donkey goes hee-haw, rooster goes cock-a-doodle-doo, turkey goes gobble-gobble, pig goes oink-oink, cat goes fiddle-i-fee.
