Flannel Friday: Five Little Cats

on September 9, 2011

Here is my version of Five Little Cats, hope you enjoy!

Five Little Cats

5 little cats playing near the door, one ran inside and that left 4.

4 little cats underneath a tree, one heard a dog bark and that left 3.

3 little cats wondering what to do, one saw a little bird and that left 2.

2 little cats sitting in the sun, one ran to catch his tail and that left 1.

1 little cat looking for some fun, he saw a butterfly and then there were none!

  1. I love their little eyes looking in different directions!

  2. This is lovely – I’m sure to use both flannel & rhyme as I’m lining up a dog, then cat themed storytime (also birds and dinosaurs – ideas?)

Here is my favorite bird rhyme that I love to use. I like it because it’s slighty different than the normal “5 little”:
      Five Little Birds
1 little bird with feathers of blue, flew beside the green one and then there were 2.
2 little birds singing in the tree, the red one came to join them, and then there were 3.
3 little birds wishing there were more, along came the pink bird and then there were 4.
4 little birds happy to be alive, found a yellow one and then there were 5.
5 little birds happy as can be, singing beautiful songs just for you and me!

And this dinosaur one is great to use as well. This one is fun because it requires more interaction from the children:
      Five Enormous Dinosaurs
5 enormous dinosaurs letting out a roar. ROAR! One stomped away and then there were four.
Stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp, ROAR!
4 enormous dinosaurs knocking down a tree. Clunk! One stomped away and then there were three.
Stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp, ROAR!
3 enormous dinosaurs eating tiger stew. Ew! One stomped away and then there were two.
Stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp, ROAR!
2 enormous dinosaurs sitting in the sun. One flapped away and then there was one.
Flap, flap, flap, flap, flap, flap, flap, flap, ROAR!
1 enormous dinosaurs left all alone. He stomped away and then there were none.
Stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp, ROAR!

  3. Thanks! I’m just working up the dinosaurs one now, so this is great. Just watched a YouTube video of the song – I’m learning so much new stuff!
